The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has intensified night-time operations against electricity theft across the region on the directives of Chief Executive Akhtar Hameed Khan.
According to a PESCO spokesperson, the company’s operation teams carried out surprise raids in the Hashnagri area on Saturday night and disconnected three illegal connections found to be directly involved in power theft.
Two additional connections were declared suspicious and have been sent to the company’s laboratory for testing. The spokesperson added that three more meters, which were installed inside houses and found to be doubtful, have been ordered to be removed and reinstalled on electricity poles for proper monitoring.
The company said it had observed a sharp rise in power theft during night hours, with consumers running air conditioners and other heavy appliances on stolen electricity.
“Such practices not only cause system overloading but also lead to higher line losses,” the statement noted.
PESCO said the night raids would continue across the region to curb losses and ensure uninterrupted supply to bill-paying consumers.
