The ladies health workers under the banner of provincial lady health workers association staged a protest demonstration in Jinnah Park Peshawar here on Thursday, demanding payment of their salaries pending for six months.
Carrying placards, the protesters demanded immediate release of their pending salaries and service regularization.
Chanted slogans, the participants criticized the provincial government and health department for their delaying tactics to release their withheld salaries.
They asked the interim setup of the provincial government to play its role in the issues and ordered the concerned department to ensure their salaries timely.
The demonstration was attended by thousands of lady health workers from all over the province who were carrying placards and banners in their hands, on which demands were written in their favour.
They said that lady health workers in all districts of the province performed their duties out of their local areas and were asked to perform irrelevant duties like elections, but were never rewarded. The provincial health department should immediately release their pending salaries as early as possible amid rocketing inflation, they added.
The representatives of the association threatened they would boycott all duties, including anti-polio campaigns if their withheld salaries were not paid.
