The Capital City Police Peshawar briefed students of the Criminology Department, University of Peshawar, on the functioning and impact of the Safe City Project during a visit to Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines here on Wednesday.
Capital City Police Officer Peshawar Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmad told the delegation that the project was a key milestone in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police’s modern policing strategy, developed under the vision of Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed and with support from the provincial government.
The Safe City Project relied on a digital surveillance network and an integrated command and control system to maintain law and order, prevent crime, detect suspicious activity in real time, and enable rapid response in emergencies. The students were given a tour of the Command and Control Centre and shown the practical use of advanced surveillance systems, panic buttons, and intelligent monitoring tools.
Dr. Ahmad said the project had become an effective and reliable platform for timely crime detection, suspect tracing, monitoring of sensitive locations, evidence collection, and provision of immediate assistance to citizens. He added that the use of modern technology had significantly improved transparency, accountability, and professional capacity within the policing system.
SP Headquarters Ali Gauhar, DSP Operations Safe City Project Wajid Shah, and Assistant Professor Abrar Khan were also present.
During a question-and-answer session, the CCPO said Peshawar Police were using the Safe City Project, an extensive camera surveillance network, and body-worn cameras to protect lives and property, curb street crime, and strengthen law enforcement.
The delegation later visited the Police Martyrs’ Memorial and offered prayers for the departed souls of KP Police personnel. The students commended police efforts to maintain peace, counter crime, and eliminate drugs, and pledged to play a positive role in eradicating narcotics and other social evils.
