The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday sought response of the Vice-Chancellor (VC) University of Peshawar (UoP) Prof Dr Muhammad Idress and the president of Peshawar University Teachers Association(PUTA) in a case regarding the closure of the university due to employee’s continuous strike.
A two member bench comprising Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim andJustice SM Atteq Shah while hearing the case filed by Islamia Jamiat Talba(IJT), a student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, asked the VC, office bearers of POTA to submit their replies by April 13.
It is pertinent to mention here that the teachers and other staff of the UoP have been boycotting their duties for more than a month.
They have set-up a protest camp outside the administration block of the university to force the provincial government and administration to accept their demands.
The PHC was approached by the IJT to issue orders for the opening of the university and save precious time for the students.
As per details, more than 15,000 students are enrolled with the UoP and pay millions of rupees regularly for their study but the differences between university high-ups and teaching staffers the varsity isclosed and precious time of the students is being wasted.
The staffers of the university have also threatened that if their demands were not met effectively their strike and boycott of the classes could be prolonged.
