US Special Representative on Climate Change John Kerry on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA) 77th meeting.
According to the official statement by the PM’s office, matters of mutual interest and impacts of global climate change were discussed during the meeting.
Earlier, the prime minister, talking to a private television channel, asked the international community to turn their sentiments of solidarity for Pakistan’s flood survivors into action for their rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected areas.
The prime minister, in his address to the 193-member Assembly on September 23, is also likely to highlight the flood situation in Pakistan and appeal to the international community to extend its support for relief and rehabilitation of the flood-stricken people.
Later in his twitter statement, John Kerry said he exchanged views with the Pakistan PM over deadly devastation caused by recent floods in the country.
In his tweet, the former US Senator said humanitarian aid worth 55 million dollars has already been handed over to Pakistan.
He said that a joint effort was required to overcome deadly climate change effects.
