The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has directed all medical and dental practitioners and specialists to renew their registration certificates in accordance with the PMDC Act 2022 and relevant rules and regulations.
The council has asked all doctors to complete the renewal process within six months to ensure continued compliance with legal, professional, safety and ethical requirements and avoid difficulties in the future.
According to the PMDC, the initiative is aimed at keeping the professional register accurate and up to date while protecting the interests of both practitioners and the public. A current and verifiable register, it said, was essential for maintaining public confidence in the healthcare system. The council said the measure was primarily intended to protect doctors and patients and strengthen the credibility and integrity of the medical and dental professions. Maintaining an accurate record of licensed and registered practitioners was a key legal and regulatory responsibility to ensure that only duly registered and authorised individuals provided medical and dental services.
The renewal process would also help address concerns relating to quackery, forgery, fraudulent use of registration certificates and unauthorised medical practice, the PMDC said. An updated and verified registration database would make it more difficult for individuals to misuse professional credentials or falsely present themselves as registered doctors.
Regular renewal and verification of registration records would also provide an additional safeguard against the misuse of registration certificates and professional credentials belonging to deceased doctors. Keeping the register continuously updated would enable the council to identify outdated or inactive records and take appropriate regulatory action where necessary. The PMDC stressed that maintaining valid and effective registration was a professional and ethical responsibility of every doctor. Regular renewal would help practitioners remain compliant with regulatory requirements and provide verifiable proof of their professional status.
The council said updated registration could also facilitate doctors in pursuing professional opportunities in Pakistan as well as employment, postgraduate training, licensing and other career opportunities abroad.
The PMDC urged all doctors and dentists, particularly those whose registration renewals had remained pending for a long period, to complete the process as soon as possible within the six-month period. It advised practitioners not to wait until the deadline and to ensure timely renewal of their registration.
