PNA rejects doctor’s appointment in nursing college

The Provincial Nurses Association (PNA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter has expressed concerns about the appointment of a doctor as the principal of Government College of Nursing Dera Ismail Khan.
The president of the PNA Inayatul Haque said in a statement here on Monday the appointment is against the rules and termed the development as ‘illegal and unconstitutional’.
Inayatul Haque said that the appointment of a doctor to principal post in a college for nursing was made by Director General (DG) of Health Services and termed it against the law, adding “it is an insult not only to the nurses of Dera Ismail Khan but to the nurses of the entire province”.
General Secretary of PNA Anwar Sultana has said that non-nurse appointments should be made to administrative positions of nurses.
She said that the nurses’ community across the province has strongly opposed the appointment and district associations of the nurses have also recorded their protests against the appointment.
Nurses in Kohat, Hangu, Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Bajaur, Batkhela, Buner, Mansehra protest against the violation.
There are a number of professional nurses having high graduates of foreign universities. But a doctor was appointed to the post of principal in the nursing college in D.I Khan.
The representatives of the PNA demanded immediate withdrawal of the above-mentioned appointment notification.
They also asked the health department high-ups to avoid such violation of rules to not affect the professionalism of the institutions.
