POA decides to hold 4th Inter-Provincial Games in Peshawar: Aqil Shah

Senior Vice President Pakistan Olympic Association and former Sports Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Aqil Shah Tuesday said that Pakistan Olympic Association has categorically decided to ask government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for holding the 4th edition of the Inter-Provincial Games in Peshawar.
This he said while addressing the reception he hosted for the honor of the newly elected office-bearers of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Union of Journalists Association and Sports Writers Association here Green Hotel.
He said soon the POA delegation along with a delegation of the Sports Writers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would called the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and formally convey a message of the President Pakistan Olympic Association Lt. Gen (Retd) Arif Hassan regarding the granting of rights of hosting the 4th edition of the Inter-Provincial Games to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association.
He said KPOA along the Directorate of Sports KP have the ability to host the Games like hosting of the 33rd National Games two-year earlier.
The role of journalists with the organizers for the promotion and development of sports is obvious, Syed Aqil Shah. “We have always tried to work for the welfare of the players along with the sports and we have done it in our times, said the former Provincial Minister.
Syed Aqil Shah, who was accompanied by Provincial Olympic Association officials including former World Champion Qamar Zaman, Haroon Zafar, Chairman Provincial Tennis Association Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir, Sohail bin Qayyum, Zulfiqar Butt, Amir Sabir Advocate of Gymnastics Association, Arshad Durrani Advocate of Wrestling Association and Taekwondo Association. Murtaza Bangash, Ilyas Afridi, Mohammad Nadeem, President- Khyber Union of Journalists Association Nasir Hussain, Secretary Imran Yousafzai, President SWA KP Asim Shiraz, Shahid Afridi, General Secretary, former President Ijaz Ahmed Khan, Irshad Khan, Syed Sabbir Shah, Azmatullah, Qadir Khan and other journalists and sports organizers participated.
Syed Aqil Shah said that the role of journalists with the organizers for the promotion and development of sports is undeniable and its importance cannot be denied. He said that sports writers and sponsors are needed with the Olympic Association for the promotion and development of sports.
He said during his time as Sports Minister he organized a record national and international sports events besides the first and third edition of the Inter-Provincial Games, which declared as the successful one so far.
He said that the delegation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association along with representatives of Sports Writers would soon meet Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in which other issues including hosting of 4th Inter-Provincial Games would be discussed. He said that the government is ready to host the event and in this regard the permission and support of the government is required and in this regard.
Chief Minister Mahmood Khan will be informed about the decision of the POA, they have taken recently. He said that we have always tried to work for the welfare of the players along with sports.
In his address, Nasir Hussain, President of the Khyber Union of Journalists, paid tribute to Syed Aqil Shah and his entire team for the promotion of sports in the province in particular and in the country in general.
He also paid tribute to him for his outstanding performance in both the fields and reiterated his commitment to continue the struggle for freedom of the press. Nasir Hussain also lauded the role of SWA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the promotion and welfare of the players.
