Police baton charge, arrest protesters in Tirah

A protest demonstration of tribesmen for construction and pavement of road was held here in Bagh Maidan, Tirah Valley on Thursday but police officials’ baton charged them. According to the local sources, a number of locals, while chanting in favor of demand, took out a rally on the main road and suspended it for all kinds of traffic. They said that since long they have been raising their voice for reconstruction and concreting of the road but ironically no response has been given to their call that is injustice to them. They blamed that they were carrying out a peaceful demo which is their legal right, however the police officials conducted baton charge and aerial firing to disperse them.
Scores of demonstrators were also arrested and put behind the bars, they added.
When the Station House Officer (SHO) of Tirah police station, Shah Khalid was contacted he rejected the allegations of baton charge and aerial firing and said the protestors were just restrained from blocking the road.
Pakistan Muslim Nawaz district Chief Asghar Khan Afridi condemned the use of forces against the innocent protestors and said it’s an unfair effort to restrain citizens from exhibit their legal rights.
He asked for immediate release of the apprehended persons.
