KHYBER: A police cop was shot dead by unknown assailants at Ghandi, Sekhi Pul area of Tehsil Jamrud; district Khyber on Monday, when he was reportedly conducting security of polio vaccination team. The local police official while confirming the mishap said that the deceased, Constable Abdul Khaleq was on his way to carry out his official duty in polio campaign when he was intercepted by unknown motorcycle riders who opened indiscriminate firing on him and killed him on the spot. The killer successfully managed to escape after committing the assault, the official added. Soon after the incident, the security forces officials rushed to the site, cordoned off the area and shifted the body to Jamrud health center for the medico-legal formalities. Evidence was collected from the spot and investigation was initiated to trace the killers, official informed. Last month a local polio worker was reportedly threatened by unidentified armed motorcycle riders in Jamrud. It is to be mentioned here that in other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a seven days long polio campaign has begun in Khyber on Monday in which 0.208 million children below five years will be vaccinated against the disease.
