Polio vaccine termed mandatory for people coming from Afghanistan

PESHAWAR: In order to control the spread of polio virus from Afghanistan, the authorities have decided to make polio vaccination mandatory for the people coming to the Pak-Afghan border and the children accompanying them. Sources told on Thursday that two cases of polio have been reported this year while 27 positive environmental samples were confirmed. The polio virus presence in environmental samples was reported from the sewage systems of Peshawar, Hangu, Karachi and Lahore The virus was genetically similar to the polio virus present in Afghanistan. In this context, polio vaccination will be made mandatory for Afghan residents coming from the Pak-Afghan Torkham and Chaman borders in Baluchistan. APP
