Garhi Khuda Bakhsh
Vice President of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Senator Sherry Rehman, said the entire party leadership is present in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh to mark the 18th death anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
Speaking to the media, Senator Rehman stated that party leaders and workers are praying for the strength to continue following the ideals and vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. A public gathering has been arranged, where senior leaders will address participants.
Senator Rehman highlighted that Benazir Bhutto consistently practiced politics of reconciliation, placing Pakistan above all else. Despite imprisonment, exile, threats, and hardships, she remained committed to democratic principles.
“She never taught us to attack any pillar of the state,” she said, adding that PPP and its workers have never engaged in propaganda against state institutions, either domestically or internationally.
She recalled the party’s welfare initiatives, including granting ownership rights to families affected by disasters in 2022, reflecting Benazir Bhutto’s commitment to the people. Senator Rehman emphasized that democratic forces must stand with oppressed and marginalized communities, and that the party continues to defend the federation and national resources.
Senator Rehman noted that President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari continue to carry forward Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s vision. She also recalled Zardari’s fourteen-year imprisonment without compromising democratic principles.
Concluding her remarks, Senator Rehman urged all political parties to learn from Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s example of democratic politics rooted in public service and constitutionalism.
