Asks AIOU to take steps for providing quality education to people

President Dr Arif Alvi has directed to take all stakeholders, including clerics and provincial governments, into confidence for implementation of safety measures related to coronavirus pandemic during Eid-ul-Adha.
The President issued these directions on Thursday while chairing a meeting regarding implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to coronavirus during Eid-ul-Adha. He urged the nation to maintain social distance and make collective sacrifices to avoid the spread of coronavirus.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Interior Brig (retd) Ijaz Ahmad Shah, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology Dr Qibla Ayaz, and Secretary to the President, Tariq Najeeb Najmi.
The ministers briefed the President about the measures to be taken during Eid-ul-Adha.
The meeting emphasized the need for creating awareness about the pandemic and appealed to the media to play active role in sensitizing the people to observe the SOPs and avoid visiting crowded place like cattle markets and bazars etc. The meeting also admired the role of media which has educated the people to a larger extent about the disease.
Separately, President Dr Arif Alvi has asked the management of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) to take steps for providing quality education to the people.
He said that quality of education played crucial role in the socio-economic progress of the country, besides reducing poverty. He stated this during a presentation, given by the Vice Chancellor AIOU, Prof Dr Zia-ul-Qayyum, at Awan-e-Sadr on Thursday.
Dr Zia-ul-Qayyum briefed the President about the role of university in promotion of education. He informed that AIOU is the largest university of Pakistan with enrolment of 1.4 million students from Matric to PhD. He said that over 3.5 million students had been graduated from the university since its establishment.
While appreciating the role of AIOU in promotion of education, the President stated that the University had played greater role in providing distant education and it required to utilize information communication technology (ICT) to help the students of far-flung areas.
