Privilege committee reaffirms commitment to protect assembly decorum, members’ rights

The Privilege Committee of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Friday reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the sanctity, decorum and privileges of elected representatives during a meeting chaired by Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi in Peshawar.
The meeting reviewed various privilege motions submitted by members of the provincial assembly and discussed measures for addressing their concerns in accordance with parliamentary rules and procedures.
Provincial Minister for Law Aftab Alam and MPAs Munir Hussain Laghmani, Ikramullah Ghazi, Abdul Salam Afridi, Khalid Khan, Arbab Muhammad Waseem, Sobia Shahid, Iftikhar Ullah Jan, Nisar Baz, Ubaid ur Rehman, Musawir Khan and Shazia Jadoon attended the session.
Senior officials from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Department, Police Department and Law Department were also present during the proceedings.
The committee took up the privilege motion submitted by MPA Muhammad Nisar Baz, following which Chairperson of the Privilege Committee and Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi, in consultation with committee members, decided to convene a high-level meeting next week to further deliberate on the matter.
The committee also held detailed discussions on other privilege motions and decided to address the concerns raised by lawmakers while ensuring the dignity and privileges of public representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, the committee reiterated its resolve to uphold the sanctity, discipline and smooth functioning of Assembly proceedings through effective parliamentary oversight and coordination.
