PESHAWAR
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will continue its peaceful political and legal struggle for the supremacy of democracy and the rule of law in the country.
He stated that on 26 November last year, PTI exercised its constitutional, legal, and democratic right by holding a peaceful political protest in Islamabad. However, despite the entirely peaceful nature of the demonstration, Islamabad Police—acting on the directives of the federal government—opened direct fire on unarmed PTI workers, resulting in the martyrdom of several workers and injuries to dozens of others.
He expressed these views through a statement released from his office after participating in a special prayer ceremony held in Hayatabad, Peshawar to pay tribute to the martyrs of 26 November.
The Special Assistant attended the ceremony leading a large convoy of workers and supporters from his constituency. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, was also present on the occasion.
The event was attended by a large number of PTI leaders and workers.
On this occasion, Shafi Jan said that the Pakistan Muslim League-N, imposed on the federation and Punjab in the name of democracy, has practically buried democratic values in the country. He said amendments were made to the Constitution solely to block the political path of PTI’s founder chairman Imran Khan.
He added that last year PTI’s peaceful and unarmed workers were subjected to brutal violence and direct firing. Shafi Jan affirmed that PTI has always been and will remain a peaceful political and democratic party. Imran Khan has consistently guided his workers to remain peaceful and uphold the law.
He reiterated that the party’s only demand is the release of founder chairman Imran Khan, who—along with his spouse—is being targeted purely for political revenge. All cases registered against them are politically motivated and baseless.
The Special Assistant further said that under the leadership of Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will continue its peaceful political and legal struggle for the rule of law and the supremacy of democracy. Every effort will be done to ensure the release of Imran Khan, his wife, and all detained leaders and workers, he said.
