Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Youth Wing Peshawar District President Shahzaib Khan on Saturday said the party’s August 5 power show in Peshawar must produce a permanent action plan for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, warning that the youth wing would stage a historic sit-in at Attock Punjab later this month if no decisive strategy was announced.
Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) alongside regional president Asif Khan Bangash, district general secretary Malik Jan, representatives from Peshawar tehsils and members of Bushra Bibi’s family, Shahzaib Khan said rallies and gatherings confined to local areas of KP would not secure Imran Khan’s release.
He announced that the PTI Youth Wing would hold a historic bike rally from Namak Mandi on August 3 to express solidarity with the jailed party founder, claiming thousands of young supporters would participate.
Shahzaib Khan said the August 5 power show in Peshawar should culminate in the announcement of a final action plan for Imran Khan’s release, adding that failure to do so would force the Insaf Youth Wing to launch a historic sit-in at Attock later in August.
He alleged that some elements within PTI were not sincere about securing Imran Khan’s release, claiming several lawmakers were more concerned with protecting their personal assets than advancing the party’s movement.
The PTI youth leader claimed the provincial government was unaware of Imran Khan’s actual health condition and was only referring to his reported eye problem, while, according to Bushra Bibi’s family, the former prime minister had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease during solitary confinement.
Shahzaib Khan said Imran Khan remained imprisoned for the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law, but criticized the provincial government government for failing to focus on governance, which, he said, had disappointed the public. He urged the party to separate organizational matters from administrative affairs and improve public service delivery in line with Imran Khan’s vision.
Criticizing the provincial government, he said it had become politically weak, alleging that it was at times being rescued by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and at other times by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.
He also criticized the provincial government’s silence over drone strikes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying Imran Khan had consistently opposed such attacks and highlighted the sacrifices of thousands of Pakhtuns in terrorism-related violence.
Referring to cases registered against PTI workers, Shahzaib Khan said the youth wing would not hesitate to make sacrifices for Imran Khan’s release. He urged the provincial government not to ignore questions raised by party supporters on social media, saying PTI’s youth had played a key role in mobilizing voters.
He demanded that the party expand its protest campaign beyond KP by organizing similar rallies in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, stressing that PTI supporters had voted for the party’s ideology and expected both improved governance and a strong movement for Imran Khan’s release.
