Public-Private Dialogue is the Key to Good Governance: Aasim Shah

Lahore(Online): Vice President of FPCCI Syed Aasim Shah said on Tuesday that Public-Private Dialogue is the Key to Good Governance and Development. Substantial improvements are needed in governance to unleash Pakistan’s growth potential.
Vice President of FPCCI said these views while chairing a meeting with World Bank delegation at the FPCCI Regional Office Lahore.
Business Environment Reforms Specialist- World Bank Group Ciara Mckeon, disclosed the purpose of the meeting is to analyze the existing public private dialogue (PPD) structures in Punjab and scope a set of recommendations for DFID Pakistan for developing an online feedback mechanism for policy makers engaged in the Business Environment Reform (BER) in Punjab.
Syed Aasim Shah, Vice President of FPCCI appreciated World Bank (WB) role in the socio-economic development of Pakistan and said major business reforms are dire need of the time as it is not easy, for people to do business in Pakistan in fact very stiff, people have to deal with 40 regulatory bodies in order to open or run business in Pakistan.
He highlighted various functional areas that should be considered while designing an online feedback mechanism e.g. Tax system, funding, business registration and licensing procedures. He suggested an interactive SMS service for online feedback mechanism should be started instead of emailing system.
Ms. Ciara Mckeon Business Environment Reforms Specialist- World Bank appreciated ideas and feedbacks initiated in the meeting.
Ms. Ciara Mckeon, and Tim Vickery Business Environment Reforms Specialist- World Bank along with Mr. Muneed Ansari, Mr. Adele Iqbal Consultants World Bank Mr. Rehmat Ullah Javaid, Sadique Rehman Rana, Syed Saquib Mohyuddin and numerous members of Business Community attended the meeting.
In the end, Syed Aasim Shah, Vice President of FPCCI, presented the sounvior to Ms. Caiara Mckeon, Business Environment Reforms Specialist- World Bank Group.
