Quran’s desecration by extremists continues

HAGUE, Netherlands
Unfortunate incidents of Holy Quran’s desecration continue in Europe as Netherland’s far right group, Patriotic Europeans’ leader Edwin Wagensveld tore out pages from the holy Qur’an, creating disturbing scenes for the Muslims around the world.
Media reported that Wagensveld was allowed to carry out the heinous act by Hague police, however, refraining him from burning the pages of Holy Quran.
This is the second Islamophobic incident in Europe taking place inside one month, with Sweden’s capital Stockholm hosting terrible incident of Quran’s burning a few days ago.
Whole Islamic world had reacted to the heinous act by anti-Islamic far right extremists – including stern statements by Pakistan, Turkiye, Iran, Qatar and many more.
Now the attempt to hurt Muslims – and to ridicule their religious affiliations has drawn much condemnation from across the world of Islam for the perpetrator and also the Swedish authorities who issued permission for the heinous act saying that it should not be justified as freedom of expression.
On Tuesday, Türkiye summoned the Dutch ambassador in Ankara, Joep Wijnands, over “a vile attack” on Quran, Turikye’s TRT World reported.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the vile attack of an anti-Islamic person in The Hague, Netherlands, on January 22, targeting our holy book, the Quran,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
“This despicable act, which, after Sweden, took place this time in the Netherlands, insulting our sacred values and containing a hate crime, is a clear declaration that Islamophobia, discrimination and xenophobia know no bounds in Europe,” it added.
“These actions directly target the fundamental rights and freedoms, moral values and social tolerance of not only Muslims but all humanity, and it also harms the culture of living together in peace,” the statement stressed.
