The Qaumi Watan Party on Monday voiced concern over public hardships caused by the ongoing strike and protest calls of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), urging political parties to prioritise citizens’ welfare during agitation campaigns.
In a statement, QWP provincial general secretary Dr Farooq Afzal said that while protest was a constitutional and democratic right of every political party, public interest should remain paramount during any political activity.
He said the recent strike and protest actions had caused severe difficulties for ordinary citizens, including patients, students, daily wage workers and traders.
Dr Afzal maintained that closure of business centres had resulted in financial losses for traders, while daily wage earners were deprived of their livelihoods.
He added that road blockades and suspension of traffic created hurdles for students trying to reach educational institutions and for patients travelling to hospitals.
Terming the situation “alarming”, he said politics should aim at serving the people and resolving their problems rather than aggravating the difficulties faced by the common man.
He further said that in the prevailing economic conditions, the business community was already under considerable strain, and frequent strikes and protest activities were negatively affecting the provincial economy.
The QWP leader urged political parties to adopt a responsible approach and ensure that democratic expression did not come at the cost of public convenience and economic stability.
