Rainfall started in the city and its surroundings, making the weather pleasant in the Holy month of Ramadan, said an official of the Meteorological Department here on Wednesday.
Clouds rule in the city, the weather has become pleasant, an official of the Met Office said.
As predicted, soon after the rain started the weather changed and the heat broke. Rainfall is likely to continue in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the next 24 hours, Meteorological Department officials said.
The official said that heavy rains, strong winds and snowfall on the mountains are likely to start in the afternoon in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said PDMA has also issued a letter to all district administrations to be alert.
In view of the rains and snowfall, the district administration has been directed to take precautionary measures. Landslides are also feared in upper districts due to snowfall and rains with district administration has been directed to ensure availability of small and big machinery.
In case of strong winds, people should stay away from power lines, dilapidated buildings and structures, sign boards and billboards. Tourists and local population in sensitive upper areas are advised to take precautionary measures to be aware of weather conditions, the official said. He said, in sensitive districts, messages to the district administration should be conveyed to the local population in local languages.
In any emergency situation, he said, all concerned agencies should be vigilant in maintaining road links and provide alternative routes for traffic in case of road closure. Passengers should be warned in advance on provincial and national highways in sensitive areas, he informed.
During this time, ensure the availability of emergency services personnel and tourists should be informed about the weather situation, the letter of the PDMA said. Rains and snowfall are likely to continue intermittently till March 31, the official of the Met Office said, adding, the emergency operation center of PDMA is fully functional and people should report any untoward incident by 1700.
