Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan on Thursday said the process of transparent distribution of financial assistance among deserving families under the Ramazan Relief Package had formally begun in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Responding to a statement by Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari, Mr Jan said she should refrain from making what he termed baseless and misleading statements about the affairs of the province.
He alleged that the Punjab government’s criticism of the Ramazan Relief Package reflected its indifference towards public welfare.
Mr Jan said the relief package was being distributed among deserving families through a transparent mechanism without any political discrimination.
He added that, in line with the directives of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, widows and persons with disabilities were being given priority in the distribution process.
The special assistant rejected allegations that the relief package was being distributed among workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), terming the claims false and part of negative political propaganda.
He also criticised the Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz leadership, saying its ministers should first address what he described as poor governance in Punjab before criticising the KP government.
Mr Jan said the provincial government was taking practical steps to provide relief to the public and support deserving segments of society.
He maintained that the Ramazan package was being distributed through a transparent procedure and giving it a political colour was inappropriate.
Referring to PTI founding chairman Imran Khan, Mr Jan claimed that despite being imprisoned in what he termed false cases, the PTI leader continued to enjoy public popularity, which he said was a source of concern for PML-N leaders.
