KARACHI (Online): The PPP-led provincial government finally extended on Saturday Rangers’ policing powers and deployment in Sindh.
According to a private TV channel report, newly elected Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah signed two different summaries, extending especial policing powers of Rangers for another 90 days.
However; the powers could only be exercised in Karachi Division, as the government has restricted Rangers ambitions from extending their actions to interior Sindh.
Also, a unanimous resolution of Sindh Assembly is required to rectify the special powers under which the paramilitary forces are entitled to arrest and detain a suspect of terrorism, kidnapping and extortion for 90 days.
In the second summary signed by the CM, stay of the forces in Sindh has been extended for another year.
Rangers have been carrying out anti-criminal crackdown in Karachi since September 2013 along with police and Pakistan Army.
