Rawalpindi intensifies dengue surveillance, polio drive

Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema and MNA Tahira Aurangzeb on Wednesday reviewed dengue prevention measures, directing strict monitoring of high-risk areas across the district.
Health officials briefed the meeting on vector surveillance, hotspot identification and larva elimination activities carried out from January to April.
Data on recent surveillance, pending larva cases and hotspot coverage was reviewed, with instructions for immediate action where gaps were identified. The meeting decided to launch intensified anti-dengue activities in Potohar Town and Cantonment areas from April 17 to May 2 under a 14-day sweep plan.
The DC ordered daily monitoring of field teams and stressed prompt response to larva detection, while the MNA called for enhanced public awareness to prevent dengue spread.
Meanwhile, polio vaccination teams have also been asked for ensuring 100pc coverage Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, in a separate meeting, directed polio teams to ensure 100 percent vaccination coverage during the ongoing anti-polio campaign in the district.
He assessed overall performance, door-to-door vaccination and progress against targets, and issued certain directives for achieving a successful drive The DC instructed that no child should be left unvaccinated in any union council, emphasizing improved micro-planning and special focus on high-risk areas.
