A religious scholar was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Board Bazaar, Tajabad, Peshawar, on Friday, while two of his sons’ sustained injuries, police said.
The victim, Maulana Izzatullah, who served as a teacher at Madrasa Asriya in Hayatabad Phase 2, was pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed. His sons, Ali and Murtaza, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
SP Cantt Division Ehtraz Khan, along with a team of investigation officers, visited the site immediately after the incident. The body was sent for postmortem examination, while the injured were admitted for medical care.
The police have collected crucial evidence from the scene and initiated a search for the perpetrators involved in the attack, SP Ehtraz Khan added.
In a separate development, the Central Police Office (CPO) released a detailed report on ongoing counter-terrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the report, a total of 955 terrorists were killed in various operations this year.
The report states that 423 terrorists were killed in joint operations conducted by the police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), while 532 were eliminated by other security forces.
Authorities also recovered a significant quantity of arms and ammunition during these operations.
Among those killed, 33 were identified as key terrorist commanders, according to the CPO. The terrorists originated from districts including Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Mardan, and Kohat.
Statistics indicate that the highest number of terrorists was killed in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, North and South Waziristan, and Khyber, while important operations in Kurram, Orakzai, and Malakand also resulted in the elimination of several terrorists and commanders.
Authorities emphasized that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the province, urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
