Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested the alleged ringleader of an inter-provincial smuggling gang and seized 50 kilogram hashish from his possession.
The operation against the ringleader was conducted by SHO Taimur Saleem under the leadership of ASP Hayatabad Dr Mohammad Umar, said a handout.
During the operation, the leader of the inter-provincial drug smuggling group and the main accused were arrested. The arrested suspect has been identified as Fazal Muhammad resident of Mardan district.
According to SHO Taimur Saleem, the ringleader was attempting to smuggle a huge cache of drugs from Khyber district to Punjab by vehicle but busted in an operation near Karkhano check post.
During the initial investigation, the accused has identified the entire network in Khyber district and Punjab. Police have initiated action to arrest other members of the gang who are involved in inter-provincial drug smuggling.
ASP Hayatabad Dr Muhammad Umar told reporters that crackdown on drug pushers in the provincial capital has been intensified and a comprehensive strategy has been put in place to take action against major groups, said police.
