Rs260m fine collected on Traffic violations in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The Traffic Wardens in Peshawar collected Rs260 million on account of fine from traffic rules violators in 2016. Around 10,50,000 violators were issued challans and most of them were penalised for violating lane discipline.
It said that as many as 76,578 driving licences were issued that generated Rs50 million as revenue in the last year.
The communiqué said that 2,719 cases were registered against encroachers and 8184 people were arrested.
It said that 24853 unregistered vehicles were impounded. It said that 2,987 phone calls were made at the Traffic Police Helpline 1,915 for help and the number was used 57,964 times for verification of the driving licences.
The Education Mobile Unit educated road users and drivers and created awareness among the people about traffic rules.
The traffic police distributed 13,719 booklets and pamphlets among the people for creating awareness among them about traffic rules.
He said that the occupants of 479 vehicles were rescued and provided help during road accidents in the last one year.
It further added that 8,793 traffic officials were awarded for showing good performance while 2,967 personnel faced departmental action.
The Traffic Police Peshawar has 1126 personnel of whom 70 officials were detailed security duty.
It said that closed-circuit television cameras were installed at the track used by those learning driving.
