PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Tuesday approved a special development package worth over Rs9 billion for Torghar, along with 13 other projects in various sectors, at the seventh meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) for 2026-27.
The meeting, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Islam Zeb, approved projects covering roads, sports, forests, Board of Revenue and multisectoral development, said a handout.
According to the statement, the Torghar package, approved on the special directives of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, includes schemes for roads, health, livestock, agriculture and other sectors. Road construction and improvement projects have also been included to improve connectivity in remote areas of the district.
Among the major road schemes approved was the construction of a 45-kilometre road from Shughar to Shah Salim in Chitral. A 20km road from Battai to Khalil Top in Buner will be widened, improved and blacktopped.
In Khyber district, an 11km road from Shangar Markaz to Dars Masjid via Sandapal and an 8km road from Ahmadi to Donga were approved for construction in Tirah.
The PDWP also approved a feasibility study, design and construction of the Makhniyal-Islamabad boundary to Changla Gali road via Dukhan Plusar in Abbottabad to improve access to tourist destinations.
Other approved projects included the Billion Tree Afforestation Support Project, a feasibility study for Umarzai Bypass Road in Charsadda, establishment of a sports stadium in Upper Chitral, sports competitions in merged districts, construction and rehabilitation of sports facilities, the second phase of the special development package for Torghar, and establishment of an Urban Policy Unit.
The meeting also approved the centralisation of the Land Record Management Information System and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Resource for Inclusive Development programme.
Mr Zeb directed the departments concerned to ensure timely implementation, transparency and quality in the execution of the approved schemes.
Administrative secretaries of relevant departments, the chief economist and representatives of concerned sections attended the meeting.
