RTI is a true companion of students, which protects their rights and entitlements. It ensures merit in educational institutions by equipping them to access real records and information. It was said by Syed Saadat Jehan, Deputy Director Communication, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission (KPIC), in an RTI Session arranged by School of Business Administration, Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar. Professor Dr. Waseef Jamal , Dr. Shabana Gul and Administrative Officer KPIC along with the students were in attendance. The session was an academic part of the department’s BS 3rd semester course.
In the session Syed Saadat Jehan imparted a detail presentation on the KP RTI Act and the role of KPIC under it. Addressing the students Mr. Jehan said that RTI can facilitate students in many ways. It can be used not only for transparency of scholarships and opportunities offered by educational institutions but also in keeping eye on recruitment processes in government departments, which resultantly ensure merit in decisions. “It can also help you in the collection of data for your researches” Mr. Jehan added.
Responding to the students’ quarries, Mr. Noor Said, Administrative Officer KPIC said that the public bodies provide verified and attested information under RTI. In cases of wrong information, the KPIC has the power to take legal actions and impose penalties on responsible officers.
