PESHAWAR: The Right to Information Act (RTI) empowers journalists to access verified government information and promotes evidence-based reporting, which enhances credibility and helps prevent the spread of misleading news, particularly during conflict situations. These views were expressed by Syed Saadat Jahan, Deputy Director Communication, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission, while addressing participants at a “Workshop on Conflict Reporting for District Journalists,” organized by NGOs URDO and FAFIN at a local hotel in Peshawar. Journalists from the newly merged districts attended the workshop. In his session, Syed Saadat Jahan delivered a detailed presentation on the scope of the RTI Act, procedures for filing information requests, exemptions under the law, and the complaint mechanism. He emphasized that journalists can ensure factual, responsible, and balanced reporting by using RTI to verify facts, access official records, and counter misinformation while covering sensitive and controversial issues.
