NEW DELHI
England’s top batter Jos Buttler, who plays for Rajhistan Royals (RR) in this season of Indian Premier League (IPL), is thundering like a storm.
Buttler produced another masterclass with a bat to guide Rajasthan Royals to a 15-run win over Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium on Friday.
RR’s Buttler, who opens the innings right at top, is the leading run scorer in this IPL season so far. Buttler has scored 491 runs with a mind-blowing average of 81.83. The arguably one of the most talented and clean hitters of cricket ball in world has scored three centuries so far in this year’s IPL.
On Friday, Buttler slammed his third century of the season as Delhi Capitals bowlers looked clueless to get the better of him until the penultimate over where Mustafizur Rahman dismissed him on 116. The magnificent ton helped Rajasthan post the highest score of the season 222/2.
Enjoying the form of his life, Buttler smashed 116 off 65 balls with the help of nine boundaries and as many hits over the fence to lay the foundation of the imposing total in the company of Padikkal, who hit 54 off 35 balls with seven fours and two sixes.
India’s great Sachin Tendulkar could not stop himself from showering praise at the scintillating effort of Jos Buttler. “Jos Buttler ka naam Josh Buttler hona chahye. (Jos Buttler must be named as ‘Josh Buttler’). Incredible hitting by him and Rajhastan Royals. This is a belter of a wicket and I have a feeling that the match is wide open,” the little master had written in his tweet during the match.
Indian cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle while reacting to Buttler’s masterclass wrote, “Buttler 2022. Might even get close to Kohli 2016 at this rate. Almost halfway there.”
Former India bowler Irfan Pathan also took it to twitter to hail the English batter. “Jos Buttler is after Virat Kohli’s record of highest runs in one season. Flawless batting,” he wrote.
