KOHAT
Right winger Sohail guided his team Khan Club Sheikhan Kohat to solitary goal victory in the first semi-final in the ongoing Ramadan Football Challenge Cup being played here at Kohat Sports Complex ground on Saturday.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee Zia Ullah Khan was the chief guest on this occasion who witnessed the thrilling semi-final played at a rattling pace. Before the start of the match the players of both Khan Club Sheikhan and Dera Star Club of Dera Ismail Khan.
The match started at a slow pace and took momentum in the fifth minute when Star Club Dera got a penalty kick when the center striker Alam was blocked wrongly in the danger zone. The penalty kick was taken by mid-field Jabbar but he failed to score as he saw his left foot kick go wide from the goal-post.
On the other hand, Khan Club also put in some pressure despite conceding a penalty kick but Jabbar failed to score on it and thus the threat was averted. Khan Club got two easy goal-fetching chances but first Sohail failed to convert a free ball just in front of the goal-post and secondly the left foot attempt of Yasir went wide from the goal-post. The first-half ended a goal-less draw.
It was the second session in which Khan club slammed in a beautiful goal through right winger Sohail Khan on the field attempt. It was Sohail Khan’s eight goal in the tournament. Sohail’s goal injected new vigor in the rank of Khan Club whose players made some rallies of attacks but failed to score and thus Khan Club won the match by 1-0. Star Club Dera also did some resistance in the dying moments but failed to level the tally.
Now the second semi-final will be played between Malangi Club Kohat and Shinwari Club of Khyber District, followed by the final. Provincial Minister for Finance and Health Taimur Khan Jhagra and Director General Sports KP Khalid Khan would grace the occasion on the field and prize distribution ceremony.
