SC orders Agha Siraj Durrani, speaker SA to surrender before NAB

Supreme Court (SC) has ordered Speaker Sindh Assembly (SA) and PPP leader Agha Siraj Durrani to surrender before NAB in assets case.

The court has also rejected Siraj Durani plea for not arresting him from the court’s precinct.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Umar Ata Bandial took up for hearing bail plea of Agha Siraj Durrani on Friday in assets case.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked at the inception of the hearing how can we hear the bail before arrest plea of Agha Siraj Durrani before his surrendering before NAB.

Justice Sajjad Ali Shah while addressing counsel for Agha Siraj Durrani remarked Sindh High Court (SHC) decision is there against your client. Agha Siraj Durrani should have been in jail at present. Why should we give special concession to your client.

Amir Raza Naqvi, counsel for Agha Siraj Durrani took the plea “we have surrendered ourselves before the SC. We should be allowed to resort to the trial court again in connection with our bail. SC is empowered to suspend the high court decision. We give affidavit. Agha Siraj Durrani should not be arrested from SC. My client will offer his arrest in Sindh.

Justice Sajjad Ali Shah while addressing counsel for Agha Siraj Durrani remarked we know our powers. We know where we have to exercise our powers and where we have not to exercise our powers.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial while addressing the counsel for the petitioner remarked Now new law has come. The forum of bail has been settled in new law. You have come to SC against the decision of high court. You should surrender before NAB. We had earlier given you concession too. We will not interfere in NAB affairs.

Counsel for NAB took the plea during the hearing of the case our team kept on sitting for 24 hours in Agha Siraj Durrani home but it was not allowed to enter into home.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked it is its NAB own issue.

The court while ordering Agha Siraj Durrani for surrendering before NAB rejected his plea for not arresting him from court precinct.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till next week.

SHC had rejected bail plea of Agha Siraj Durrani in assets case and he is absconding after the rejection of his bail plea.
NAB has issued arrest warrants of Agha Siraj Durrani.

NAB is of the view Agha Siraj Durrani accumulated assets valuing over Rs1.5 billion beyond his known sources of income.
