A 5-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz will hear the Punjab Election Tribunals case today.
The court had stopped the tribunal from working on the previous hearing. While the court also directed the Chief Election Commissioner to consult the Chief Justice Lahore High Court. On June 14, the Supreme Court scheduled an appeal against the decision of the Election Commission of the Lahore High Court to form an election tribunal.
The Election Commission filed an appeal against the decision of Justice Shahid Kareem of the Lahore High Court.
Election Commission said that the formation of the tribunal is the authority of Election Commission, the decision of the Lahore High Court to form tribunals is against the law and the High Court cannot exercise the powers of the Election Commission.
The Election Commission asked the Supreme Court to annul the decision of the Lahore High Court.
