Mardan region police have issued a security plan to beef up security in order to avert any untoward incident during Muharram in the region. Foolproof security arrangements have been completed for processions and Majalis throughout the region during Muharram, a press statement said.
According to the statement on the directions of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mardan range Muhammad Suleman, foolproof security measures have been put in place for the processions and Majalis throughout the region during Muharram.
There will be 13 processions in the Mardan and Nowshera districts, for which 18 monitoring officers and 1,948 other officials will be appointed to provide security. Additionally, there will be 60 Majalis in the Mardan region, with 240 policemen assigned to duty from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram for the security of Imambargahs. To monitor sensitive processions and Majalis, drone cameras and CCTV cameras have been installed, and policemen equipped with sniper guns will be deployed on rooftops. A total of 1,966 police personnel will perform duty during the procession. Participants in the processions will undergo security checks using walk-through gates, metal detectors, and physical searches.
The processions will receive three-layer security, and the procession routes will be regularly swept by the staff of the special branch. Control rooms have been set up in Mardan and Nowshera for effective security monitoring, operating 24 hours a day. In order to maintain peace and order during Muharram, meetings have been held at both the regional and district levels with religious and social leaders from different schools of thought.
On this occasion, RPO Muhammad Suleman has urged the public, in his message, to maintain patience, tolerance, and an atmosphere of mutual brotherhood, religious harmony, and peace during Muharram, regardless of their religious beliefs and sects.
