Seminar highlights expanding digital opportunities for women

In celebration of International Women’s Day, a seminar titled “Women and Technology” was held at the Business Incubation Center of the University of Peshawar.
The event was organized by Karishma Zakaullah, with the support of Google’s Women Techmakers program and in collaboration with the Code Business Incubation Center.
The seminar brought together female students, particularly from art and design backgrounds, to explore the expanding opportunities in digital technology.
The primary aim was to encourage young women to embrace digital tools and skills, paving the way for remote employment and financial independence.
The event was attended by professionals from the IT Board of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, technology experts, and accomplished women from diverse fields.
The speakers emphasized the importance of utilizing digital platforms for entrepreneurship and job creation, particularly at the domestic level.
Dr. Shakeel, Director of the Business Incubation Center, emphasized the importance of empowering students with digital skills to help them become self-reliant. “Our goal is to equip students with modern technological knowledge so they do not need to depend on others,” he said.
In her address, Karishma Zakaullah highlighted the urgent need to introduce female students to the digital realm, acknowledging the challenges women face in the field, but also stressing the potential for progress through resilience and determination. “We are committed to supporting the girls of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in gaining digital skills alongside their education,” she said.
Afshan, the first female industrialist of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, shared her inspiring journey that began with digital marketing and encouraged young women to follow similar paths to success.
Students expressed their gratitude to the organizers, stating that such events provide valuable exposure to modern digital technologies and open doors to future opportunities. Many participants voiced the hope that more such seminars will be organized to further support women’s empowerment and economic advancement.
