ABBOTABAD
Lecturer of Ayub Medical College Abbottabad, who suffered from burn injuries a few days back, has died in CMH Kharian.
Dr. Mahwish Tariq was serving as a lecturer in Anatomy Department of Ayub Medical College for the last 5 years. Dr. Mahwish fell on the gas heather due to an epileptic fit at around 12.30 on 25th October 2016. She was provided treatment at Ayub Teaching Hospital and later on shifted to the CMH in Khariaan.
She was in a critical condition as more than 60p percent of her body had been burnt, and passed away a day ago. Recalling her memories, her colleague Associate professor of Anatomy Dr. Fatima shirie said that we had tea together just 15 minutes before this incident. She was so happy at the submission of her MPhil Thesis that day.
After tea, I along other collogues went out to take classes and she was there preparing her lecture for the next class and within 10 minutes this sad incident happened. It was so unbelievable for us and left the teachers and the students in shock.
She further told that they all had a very good time with Dr.Mahwish in last 5 years. She was way too polite and hold great moral and values. She has left one daughter of 7-year-old and 2 sons of 9 and 10 years old respectively. Dean Umer Farooq said that we all are sorry for this loss, our prayers are with her and her family.
She was a dynamic personality loved by all of the students, this college will always remember her. He said that he is going to make all the efforts to provide a safe and secure environment to students and teachers of this medical college. Hospital Director Dr.Athar Lodhi expressed his grieved over the sad demise of Dr.Mahwish Tariq and said that I am very saddened to hear of this loss. We would make all the efforts to upgrade the burn unit at Ayub Teaching Hospital so that burn unit can provide all the facilities to the burn patients.
Ayub Teaching Hospital has a 20 bedded burn unit but it has the capacity to treat only 30 to 40 % burn injuries. There is a need to establish a burn unit with full facilities in the province, especially in Hazara division.
Medical Director Dr.Ahsan Aurangzeb said in his condolences message that he is so deeply saddened to hear of the loss of a precious life. It is very sad that we do not have a proper burn unit in the whole province nor we have a plastic surgeon in the whole Hazara division. The services of a plastic surgeon are crucial in a burn unit and I am going to make all efforts along with the board of governors for the induction of a full-time plastic surgeon in Ayub Teaching Hospital Abbottabad.
