Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, inaugurated the two-day Youth Festival at Bacha Khan University, Charsadda, on Wednesday and administered the oath to the newly elected cabinet of the Charsadda Press Club.
Addressing the Youth Festival, organized jointly by Bacha Khan University and the District Youth Affairs Department, Shafi Jan described the youth as the “asset of the country” and urged them to play an active role in nation-building. “Developed countries have invested in youth, which has propelled their progress. The responsibility for the development of the country should be entrusted to the youth,” he said, adding that the Chief Minister, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, has been entrusted with this responsibility by founding chairman Imran Khan.
Shafi Jan encouraged young participants to remain steadfast in pursuit of their goals and highlighted the role of youth in defending their mandate during the recent elections on February 8. He also emphasized the potential of social media as a tool for positive societal change. During the festival, he inspected the stalls set up by students and interacted with participants.
Later, Shafi Jan visited the Charsadda Press Club to administer the oath to its newly elected cabinet and governing body members. Congratulating them, he underscored the importance of journalism as the fourth pillar of the state and urged the media to report responsibly while avoiding bias. He assured the journalistic community that the provincial government would address the issues of press clubs on a priority basis.
Shafi Jan also criticized undue harassment of journalists under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and called for verified reporting while discouraging yellow journalism. On a separate note, responding to questions about a meeting between the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, he said the discussions focused on terrorism, law and order, and government arrears.
The ceremony was also attended by MPA Iftikharullah Jan, who announced plans for the solarization of the Charsadda Press Club.
