An accountability court in Lahore on Monday accepted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s application for permanent exemption from appearing at hearings in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a reference against Shehbaz and his son Hamza Shehbaz in 2019, alleging that they “fraudulently and dishonestly” caused a Rs213 million loss to the national exchequer.
According to the NAB, when Shehbaz was the Punjab chief minister, he had issued a directive for the construction of a drain in Chiniot district primarily to benefit the sugar mills owned by his sons.
The anti-graft watchdog had claimed to have obtained “sufficient incriminating” material and evidence during the investigation.
In 2019, Shehbaz was arrested by the NAB in connection with the case but was later granted bail by the Lahore High Court (LHC).
PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry has said Sharif and Zardari families are getting NRO-2 by amending NAB laws.
“ NAB independence status has been abolished and It has been brought under interior ministry. How shameful it is that they are asking US ambassador to help them in striking deal with IMF”, he said this while addressing a press conference here Monday.
He went on to say Hina Rabbani Khar and Bilawal Bhutto had boycotted the amendments in connection with FATF. Opposition was of the view first of all NAB amendments be made and they will cooperate on FATF.
He held PML-N got first NRO from Pervez Musharraf and now second NRO is being got. Under NRO-1 the cases of Sharif family and Zardari were withdrawn. Now benefit is being allowed to Sharif family and Zardari by introducing amendment in NAB laws. Section 14 of NAB laws was also undone according to which the accused was to provide evidence with regard to ill gotton money.
He underlined as per new law the definition of assets has been changed. PTI is going to observe black day against amendment in NAB law.
The amendment in section will lead to abolish the Avenfield case against Maryam Nawaz. Khawaja Saad Rafiq will also be benefitted in Ashiana case. Benefit will be afforded to Raja Shahid Pervez and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi by making amendment in section 4.
While giving the reason to change the regime on TV Shahid Khaqan Abbasi acknowledged Imran Khan was ousted to avert Ehtesab.
He remarked Imran Khan is symbol of unity of Pakistan. I thank the people who came outside their homes on PTI call despite rainfall.
