SHC orders for registering case of accidents against chairman NHA, IG Motorway

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered to register accidents related cases against Chairman NHA and IG Motorway. The petition against poor condition of high ways and traffic accidents came for hearing before SHC Friday. NHA, Motorway police authorities appeared in the court. The court while expressing resentment over NHA inquired NHA is doing what for betterment of high ways. Member South NHA Abdul Latif Mahesar told the court there are 11 projects and schemes . Projects for revival are also underway under NHA Sindh. Justice Nisar Bhanbhro inquired is it in your knowledge how many people have died in accidents. Are emergency facilities available on motorways and highways. ONLINE
Member South NHA told the court trauma and rescue centers are there in Noori Abad on M-9 motorway.
Justice Nisar Bhanbhro remarked NHA is most useless institution. It has employed idle people in the offices.
Counsel for NHA said accidents don’t occur only on highway but also on other key roads too.
Province is responsible for license and fitness.
Justice Nisar Bhanbhro remarked you are getting money too. Read NHA safety ordinance. Is it responsibility of provincial police or Motorway police.
The court remarked cases of accidents be registered against chairman NHA and IG Motorways. If traffic is blocked on highways then the NHA will have to pay the loss.
Counsel for NHA said Sindh government has cancelled transfer of land allocated for M-9.
Justice Saleem Jessar said federation did not make payment, Therefore, transfer of land was cancelled.
Member South NHA told the court Indus highway will be restored fully in March.
The court raised question who will be responsible for accidents till March.
Justice Saleem Jessar remarked we will issue detailed order on this matter.
The court adjourned hearing of the case till April 10.
