Shia community calls for immediate ceasefire in Kurram

Senior representatives of the Shia community held a press conference in the Peshawar Press Club on Saturday and urged the provincial government and law enforcement agencies to take concrete steps towards an immediate ceasefire in Kurram district.
The representatives demanded that the government identify and bring to justice those responsible for the violence, ensuring that peace is restored in the region.
Allama Abid Hasan Shakri of Madrasa Arif Hussaini, Allama Syed Jameel Hasan Shirazi, Khatib Allama Nazir Hussain Muthari of Hayatabad Mosque, Allama Syed Ahmad Hasan Shirazi, President of Ulema Ahle Parachinar, Syed Azhar Ali Shah, Chairman of Imamiya Council for Interfaith Harmony President of Imamia Students Organization, Gulzar Hussain Bangash of Tanzeem Ul Momineen Peshawar Cantt and others said that the Parachinar clashes could not be desired or needed by any of the parties.
Speakers at the press conference lambasted the federal and provincial governments for their alleged role in the Kurram clashes and held them responsible for the violence.
The speakers also criticized law enforcement agencies for their perceived helplessness in preventing the ongoing dispute between the two tribes, attributing it to negligence and excuses rather than a genuine inability to act.
The speakers demanded that those responsible for creating law and order situation in the Kurram district be held accountable and that concrete steps be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
They said that hundreds of citizens besieged in Parachinar due to ongoing conflict and demanded that they should be transported to their places by helicopter service and roads should be opened for all kinds of travelling.
They warned that if the dispute and clashes were not ended and stopped immediately, protests and sit-ins across the country are not out of the question.
