Social safety, poverty alleviation program to help end financial woes of poor: Experts

People of all walk of life including politicians and civil society here Friday highly praised ambitious social safety and poverty alleviation program launched by Prime Minister for public’s welfare and termed it a leap step forward towards ending financial and economic woes of the poor segment of the society.
Arbab Jahandad Khan MPA told APP that this program was historic and inclusive that will bring a large number of poor and needy people especially women and children under social safety net.
“The politics and policies of PTI Government revolve around welfare of people,” he said, adding the program will benefit people of all provinces including Khyber Pakthunkhwa.
The PTI leader said Government was making focus on provision of better facilities to people in terms of food, shelter, clothing, education and health at their doorsteps.
He said whether it was mega metro bus project in Peshawar or billion trees afforstration project and construction of five million houses, all are people welfare projects that would bring significant positive changes in people’s lives.
He said Prime Minister Imran Khan’s announcement of starting of construction work from next month on five million housing project have created a wave of jubilation among poor and homeless people.
The PTI leader said poor people are paying their hard earned money as rent for hiring a house and keeping in view of their difficulties, the Government has taken a principal decision to initiate work on gigantic five million housing project from next month.
Under social safety and poverty alleviation programme, the money spent on underprivileged would be enhanced by Rs80 billion, and further by Rs120bn by 2020.
The PTI leader said our country’s history revealed that no political government has spent so much huge amount on social safety and poverty alleviation program, adding this mega program will bring revolution in lives of poor people.
The PTI leader welcomed decision of Prime Minister regarding creation of new ministry for social protection and poverty alleviation that would work on coordination of the programme’s implementation throughout the country.
District Member, Qaiser Khan also commended the social safety and poverty alleviation program and said raising of the new ministry will help bring all related organizations that working for assistance of poor under one roof besides enhance its efficiencies in service delivery and address people’s problems.
He said extra care should be made in the new survey so that no deserving person should be deprived of the financial assistance.
Nazim Bahadar Khan also welcome the program and appreciated PM’s announcement regarding giving of saving accounts and mobile phones to nearly 5.7 million women enabling them to access their bank accounts that will ensure transparency.
He also appreciated the announcement regarding increase of cash transfers to women from Rs5000 to Rs5500.
Bahadar Khan said Tahafuz (protection) was a revolutionary program that would immensely help general public by providing them legal aid besides grants to children who want to continue their studies without financial constraints.
