PESHAWAR
Speakers at an event here on Thursday stressed the need for making collective efforts to pave ways for reducing energy consumption and better waste management to adopt renewable sources for sustainable energy use in the future.
The event,”Advanced Clean Energy Summit” was organised by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in collaboration with University of Engineering and Technology (UET) to educate the provincial government, policy makers and private sectors on the use of clean energy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Representatives of government line departments, students, professionals associated with the clean energy markets and faculty members of the university and a large number of students attended the conclusion session of the two-day event.
Professor Iftikhar Hussain who attended the event as chief guest said that unfortunately Pakistan is lag behind utilising its renewable energy resources.
He said that “Sustainability is a key word where we must take concrete steps to provide a better future to our future generations.”
VC Iftikhar Hussain lauded Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zone Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) efforts for cooperation with academia in the field of applied research.
He appreciated the organizers of the event, including Advisor ASME Dr Muhammad Alam Zeib Khan and President of Peshawar Chapter Osama Humayun Jadoon, for highlighting the need for renewable energy and emphasized cooperation and increased linkages with industry.
Javed Iqbal Khattak Chief Executive Officer (CEO) KPEZDMC maintained that the provincial government was taking pragmatic steps to establish economic zones and boost employment opportunities across the province.
He said currently around 290 industrial units are in the process of establishment while 14 Special Economic Zones have already been established which will lead the region towards rapid industrialization.
As a UET graduate, he assured support for the inclusion of talented engineering university graduates in the job market and visits to major economic zones including Rashkai Special Economic Zone.
Later, VC UET Professor Dr Iftikhar Hussain gave shields and souvenirs to the guest speakers and organizers.
