Provincial Minister for Education Faisal Khan Tarakai has said that significant measures have been taken to ensure transparency and prevent cheating in the recent matriculation examinations.
Speaking to the media during his visit to Government Shaheed Usama Zafar Centennial Higher Secondary School, Peshawar City, the minister emphasized that both private and government school students were seated together in mixed examination halls under strict monitoring protocols.
“Strict action is being taken against those involved in malpractice. This year, 13 cases have been registered, and the responsible individuals will be penalized under A\&D rules,” he said.
In comparison, 142 cases were filed last year. He added that similar efforts are underway to ensure fairness in the upcoming intermediate examinations so that deserving students receive their due recognition.
Accompanied by Commissioner Peshawar Division and Chairman Peshawar Education Board Riaz Mehsud, and Special Secretary Education Abdul Basit, the minister highlighted several ongoing reforms in the education sector. These include the provision of free textbooks in all districts, the establishment of IT and science laboratories, and an overarching focus on improving the quality of education.
Tarakai noted that the province’s school admission campaign is progressing successfully. “So far, over 650,000 students have been admitted, and the data from some districts will be uploaded shortly.
The campaign has now been extended until May 15,” he stated. Last year, 1.3 million children were enrolled in schools, and the government remains committed to bringing every out-of-school child back into the education system.
Addressing the needs of schools in the merged districts affected by terrorism, the minister revealed that 50 new schools have been constructed in Khyber District with the support of China Aid. “The teaching and learning process in these schools will commence soon,” he announced.
Furthermore, a plan to solarize schools across the province is underway, with discussions currently ongoing with the Bank of Khyber to support this initiative.
