Lahore (Online): Chairman Chief Minister’s Task Force on Spurious Drugs and Parliamentary Secretary Health Punjab Kh. Imran Nazir has said that concrete steps are being taken to eradicate the stigma of spurious and sub standard drugs from the province and to ensure provision of quality
medicines to the people.
He said this while giving details of six months performance of the task force.
He said that crackdown against the culprits allegedly involve in this illegal business will continue without any discrimination. Khawaja Imran Nazir said that the Chief Minister Task force and the drug inspectors of the Health department has sent 54753 samples to drug testing laboratories of the province, out of which 437 were declared sub standard while 29 were found spurious adding that the drug inspectors sealed 1768 medical stores and FIRs were lodged against 158 culprits.
“As many as 172 cases were sent to the Provincial Quality Control Board and 3397 cases to the districts quality control boards”, he added and disclosed that action has also been taken against 65 people on account of illegal advertisements. Moreover, 1813 cases were sent to the Drug Courts and the Courts decided 1494 cases. During the last 6 months Rs.3,88,67000/- fine was imposed and a total of 64 years and 7 months imprisonment was awarded to the culprits involved in this heinous crime.
Khawaja Imran Nazir said that strict punishments have been proposed in the amended draft of Drug Act and enemies of human life would be dealt with iron
