Students of Government Ammar Shaheed High School, Landi Kotal are facing severe difficulties in continuing their educational activities amid the intense summer heat due to the absence of electricity or a solar power system at the school.
Students said that besides other routine practices, lack of electricity had left the school’s computer lab unusable, raising concerns that hundreds of students could be deprived of essential computer education and face a setback to their future.
They asked for the provision of clean drinking water, electricity and adequate furniture to government schools in Landi Kotal, saying that students in the area should be provided with facilities comparable to those available in government schools in other districts.
Abdullah, a ninth grade student of the school, said that almost five hundred students were compelled to attend their studies in scorching heat without fans in the classes.
Many students became unconscious because of muggy weather, he added.

They maintained that the provincial government had announced plans to install solar systems in government run-schools in the province; however, the promise had yet to be materialized.
They demanded the installation of a large-capacity solar system at the school to ensure supply of electricity for the school and enable the computer lab to function properly.
The students and teachers appealed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Provincial Minister Mina Khan Afridi, Provincial Minister Sahibzada Muhammad Adnan Qadri, MNA Haji Iqbal Afridi, and senior officials of the Education Department that their immediate action would enable students to continue their educational activities in a better environment and help secure a brighter future for the young generation.
