The students of Landikotal post graduate college on Saturday rejected the decision to affiliate the college with Fata university instead of the university of Peshawar and warned of protests if the move was not withdrawn.
A notification issued by Fata university, the affiliation of Government Postgraduate College, Landikotal, has been transferred from the university of Peshawar to Fata university. The decision has sparked serious concern among students.
The college’s students’ union has outright rejected the move, terming it against students’ interests and a “dangerous experiment” with their academic future.
The union leaders said students have serious reservations about affiliation with Fata university and regretted that no consultation was held with them at any stage of the decision-making process.
Students’ union president Malik Daud Shinwari said this was not the first time such a decision had been imposed on students.
He recalled that a similar move in the past was strongly resisted by the aware students of Landikotal, who united, staged protests, blocked the Pak-Afghan highway, held meetings with senior officials and presented their case with solid arguments
He said eventually forcing the authorities to withdraw the decision.
He warned that if the latest decision was not reversed, students would give call for peaceful but strong protest. “This issue is linked to our future, education and right to be heard and there will be no compromise on it,” he said.
It may be added here that more than thousands students enrolled in various disciplines in the college had several time showed their agitation against the planned affiliation of the college with Fata university and demanded to remain it with Peshwar university.
