Kargil
Senior Ladakhi leader and Co-Chairman of the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), Asgar Ali Karbalai, has announced that dialogue with the Indian government will remain suspended until justice is served for the victims of the September 24 Leh firing incident.
Speaking to media in Kargil, Karbalai expressed deep concern over the tragic episode in which Indian forces opened fire on unarmed civilians in Leh, martyring four and injuring dozens. He said more than 70 individuals have been detained, while prominent environmentalist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk has been arrested on “false charges” and transferred to Jodhpur—an act he termed shocking and condemnable.
Karbalai stated that the KDA and Leh Apex Body (LAB) have jointly demanded a Judicial Inquiry Commission led by a sitting Indian Supreme Court judge to ensure impartial investigation.
He added that talks with New Delhi will remain frozen until judicial proceedings begin, detainees are released, and compensation is paid to the victims’ families.
