There is a need to plant more trees in the context of climate change: Commissioner Mardan

Commissioner Mardan Division Shaukat Ali Yousafzai has emphasized the need to plant more trees and maintain them regularly in the context of climate change and it’s devastating effects.
He was talking after handing over 30,000 saplings of different varieties provided by Pakistan Tobacco Company to Assistant Commissioners for planting in their respective tehsils.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mardan Saeedullah Jan, Additional Assistant Commissioners Khaula Haqdar and Junaid Khalid, PTC Regional Manager Leaf Kifayat Khan, Manager External Jamal Khan Toru and other relevant officials were also present on this occasion.
While giving a briefing to Commissioner Mardan on this occasion, PTC officials said that their organization is providing lakhs of different types of plants to farmers and government institutions to improve the environment.
He said that a total of 21 lakh saplings will be distributed in Mardan, Swabi, Mansehra and Buner this year. Commissioner Mardan Division Shaukat Ali Yousafzai while appreciating the plantation initiative of PTC directed the Assistant Commissioners to ensure the planting and maintenance of these trees in their respective tehsils.
He said that in the context of climate change, plantation and regular maintenance of planted trees is the need of the hour and all institutions including the Forest Department should fulfill their responsibilities in this regard.
On this occasion, he also inaugurated the plantation campaign by planting saplings in the lawn of the Commissioner’s office.
