An important meeting addressing public grievances related to overbilling and technical issues in the Hazara Electric Supply Company (HAZECO) was held at the Commissioner’s Office in Abbottabad, chaired by Commissioner Hazara Division Fayyaz Ali Shah, a handout said.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Battagram Ishtiaq Ahmed, District Police Officer Muhammad Ayaz Khan, Chief Executive Officer HAZECO Qazi Tahir, Additional Deputy Commissioner Battagram Muhammad Sohail, Superintendent Hazara Circle Mansehra II, and Exxon HAZECO Battagram.
During the meeting, DC Battagram highlighted a surge in public complaints from the Battagram district regarding overbilling, incorrect meter readings, delays in transformer repairs, and other technical issues.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Qazi Tahir briefed the forum on the challenges faced by the power supply company, further highlighting the need for improved coordination.
Commissioner Fayyaz Ali Shah expressed serious concern over the rising number of public complaints and emphasized the importance of transparent and fair billing to maintain public trust. “Non-transparent billing not only erodes public confidence but also damages the credibility of government institutions, especially when the government is actively pursuing anti-power theft and recovery drives,” he said.
In his concluding remarks, the Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner Battagram and HAZECO administration to take joint and immediate steps to address electricity-related issues through effective coordination and communication. He called for the formulation of a comprehensive strategy to ensure quick and lasting resolution of overbilling, meter reading, transformer repair, and supply-related complaints.
“The public must see visible relief, and confidence must be restored through timely and transparent action,” the Commissioner added.
