PESHAWAR: A petition filed by Turkish teachers and parents of Pak-Turk School and College, Peshawar, students against the federal government’s decision not to extend their visas was withdrawn after a Peshawar High Court bench allowed the filing of its amended version for including the latest developments on the matter.
The petitioners’ lawyer, Qazi Mohammad Anwar, told Justice Syed Afsar Shah and Justice YounasTaheem that after the filing of the petition, most Turkish teachers of Pak-Turk School System in Pakistan had approached the United National High Commissioner for Refugees for protection as they feared persecution in case of deportation.
He requested the court to allow his clients to withdraw the petition and file an amended petition wherein fresh developments would be included and some other documents would also be submitted.
The lawyer said Pakistan was a signatory to several international conventions and it was binding on it not to deport Turkish teachers as they would be victimized in own country.
